Moonchild and The High Priestess: An introduction to tarot and magical themes in Aleister Crowley’s novel of 1929

In this one-day course we will explore Aleister Crowley’s use of the Tarot and magic to inform the structure and thematic development of his novel ‘Moonchild’ (1929). Discussion of the novel in its literary and social context will lead to an introduction to the practice of Tarot adopted by The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the esoteric magical group that was a major influence on the occult revival in Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries and that is still important today.
